James Downs is Archivist of the Middle East collections at the University of Exeter, editor of Photographica World, author of Anton Walbrook. A Life of Masks and Mirrors (2020), Joseph Pike: the 'happy Catholic artist' (2017), A Carnal Medium: fin-de-siècle essays on the photographic nude (2013) and various articles in journals such as The Innes Review, Studies in Photography, Source, Early Popular Visual Culture and Ancient Egypt.
